Nona Beamer -The Golden Lehua Tree (CD)
It seems that these stories have been in my heart all of my life. I invented cloud formation stories to tell my sister and brothers when we were little, and as it always worked wonders to soothe and comfort them, I became fascinated with the art of storytelling. As my Sweetheart Grandma Helen Desha Beamer's first grandchild, I was taught hula and immersed in the hula culture at an early age. The stories were stunning! Tales of people, places, and Hawaiian history reverberating through centuries of time, what a precious gift!
I faced my first class of children when I was just 12 years old. Storytelling was my magic wand. It was then that I began to elaborate upon the descriptions, composing chants and songs to accompany the tales. Story telling has been a powerful teaching tool. The sharing of the stories and music continually enriches my life. It is my hope that they will enrich yours as well. Me ke aloha nui ia 'oukou a pau loa.
