LINER NOTES..."Poli'ahu-The Snow Goddess of Mauna Kea"
The majestic volcano called Mauna Kea (the white mountain) on the Island of Hawaii stands nearly 14,000 feet high and is the home of Poli'ahu, the Hawaiian Snow Goddess. It is said in Hawaiian mythology that she resides at the summit of the volcanic crater. Dressed in a stark white mantle, she is attended by three maidens. At that elevation, the temperature is often below freezing and the unpredictable weather, in combination with the thin atmosphere, can be deadly. In the eternal darkness, high above the vastness of the Pacific Ocean, Poli'ahu's voice falls with the snow through the impossible desolation of that eerie landscape. Chanting in the darkness, she calls out for her long lost lover.
